Speaking of Wabbits

I saw a documentary last night about wildlife on the Andes Mountains.
The bunny like creature sketched below actually exists there and sleeps standing up just like the drawing.
It is a half squirrel half rabbit mammal called Viscacha.

Because they can stand a high altitude and most predators are unable to reach them they are one of the main animals living up there.
I did the sketch really fast while watching the documentary sooo afraid I’d never see it again (Which would be a crime since it's so great looking and I love drawing it)!
Little did I know with a little work I found some images on the glorious web.
Here's the real thing:

Man I wish these were around here I want one!

One a totally unrelated note, here are some bonus sketches ~

Stanford is an interesting place

So recently I've been noticing a lot of funny and random things around Stanford. Mostly insane things people wear or just random interesting "Only at Stanford" sightings. I eventually plan on sketching some of the funnier ones and maybe putting a little memory book together.
Anyway, one such sighting was on the way to work this morning. Construction is always going on at SU so it is not unusual to be stuck behind some huge machine when driving around campus, However when I pulled into campus drive making my way to the office I ended up behind a huge filthy yellow machine with one special note.

On top of the machine near the exhaust tube was a brown stuffed rabbit very securely fastened on each side with a thin wire. This rabbit was small and looked exactly like the one in the children's book "The velveteen rabbit". (The pic below is literally what it looked like)

As I continued to follow behind the vehicle I was faced with this sweet simple rabbit looking back at me. The longer I remained behind the male driver I began to notice the rabbit had been taken care of. Even though the machine was filthy the rabbit was clean and had obviously been attached for a while.
I fell in love with that image and the contrast of a guy driving a big macho messy machine with a sweet homey touch.
Only at Stanford.

Be Joyful Always

10 years have gone by since her passing and it feels like a moment.
Looking back over photos and remembering Shelly I am struck by how much Joy she had in living.
Even through her toughest trials and darkest moments she still found joy and reasons to be grateful. Not only joy but downright fun.
When I think of all the shenanigans we got into over the years, mostly inspired by her brilliance, it makes me laugh and feel lucky to have known her.
I mean how many people can create a puppet show at the drop of a hat and perform it for family and neighbors, or a fortune teller in the garage next to the bikes who predicts porches for all, or last minute picnics at Serra park that end in tag and Popsicles.
I hope those who were lucky enough to know her remember to find joy in all things and to live the life you want to live full of wonder and delight.
Face the good with gratitude and the bad with fortitude.
I miss you more than ever Shel-Bel you were and still are an unstoppable inspiration.

What I'm listening to these days

In general I can't get enough of 1930's music it is just so fun and full of life.
What happened to performers like this! I wish we could bring vaudeville back it created the most amazing talent, humor ...everything!
Baby Rose Marie is the perfect example she is truly amazing and started at age 3 from what I've read.
Below her videos are some other songs I can't get enough of right now.

Late Late Late......argh..sigh

So I've be fighting with amazon for the past month and a half to have the key part of a gift project I'm working on shipped. Ugh I can't explain how frustrating the whole process has been. When you buy something they list when its going to be shipped and arrive so I naturally assumed thats when I would receive it. Of course on the arrival date it never came, so then they just kept pushing back the arrival date no matter what I said until finally it arrived today, a Month and a half later!!!!!.
So because it was sent late the gift this is a major part of is now REALLY late!! Ugh makes me so mad!! oh well anyways... The good news is it finally arrived and I can finnish my gift and mail it out this Friday.
What the heck is it and who is it for you say????... Well for those of you who don't know, Melaine and Bo recently had a new addition to their family, a sweet little boy named Ronan and I wanted to do something special.
Below is a picture sneak peek of what I'm working on. It may not look like much now but it will all make sense when I post a pic of it finished and pretty.
Troy and Melanie if you read this I'm sorry its so late but hopefully it will be well worth the wait!!!

Life is Good, La la la

Oh happy day, I finally bought a bike this weekend! I haven't ridden one in almost 7 years so it felt great to be back in the saddle again. A bike in the summertime brings back a lot of fond childhood memories and makes me want to go on adventures and ride to Serra Park.
In other news I am currently working on a a few book projects and some are top secret but...... if theres any interest I might post some sneak peeks.
